Rather late in January I too am up for the reading programme. I read them many years ago and then again after the excellent TV series so ready for the third time. Won’t finish the first by the weekend I’m afraid.
Marvellous to have you on board. I'll post on Friday (I'm going to do the same for the last Friday in every month this year per book, except perhaps December since that would be Boxing Day...) about my thoughts and please feel free to add your thoughts whenever you can
Good plan. Count me in. I read it probably 20 years ago and loved it. I was subsequently given the Folio Society version which have been sitting on my shelves ever since. So it’ll be a good excuse to crack them open at last. Need to finish Petroc’s Cornwall book first.
That's smashing. If you liked the first chapter, then I think you'll like the rest - it takes a bit of time to get moving. There's certainly the craft of Wodehouse in the work, if not the big laughs (though there are funny bits). You're right, I should have mentioned libraries which is by far the cheapest way to go.
Excellent stuff. "If you're not careful you will suffer the awful fate of the man who always knows the right clothes to wear and the right shop to buy them at."
This s a great idea, Alex! I've also read these a couple of times previously and had been musing recently about giving them another outing, so you're providing me with a great excuse!

Huzzah! The Folio one is very nice, if hefty. Dad liked the Petroc book (as audio).
I'm in! Lovely idea
Magic darts! I think you'll find plenty to explore along the way (not least the painting).
I’ve never heard of it, but I read the first chapter. It has the observational flavor of Woodhouse, so I’m game.
All but vol 1 can be borrowed from Hoopla with a library card.

Great excuse to read them again. I'll dig out my ill-fitting, Widmerpoolian, jacket.

Excellent stuff. The Essence of All is the Godhead of the True!
