I laughed out loud at the critical review of Bookshelf. That person may also have been disappointed to find that Hamlet wasn't an English village holiday location. I enjoy The Writing Hut very much by the way: just thought I'd say.
It's unbelievable isn't it. There's another one who said something along the lines of 'I bought it thinking it was a bookshelf but actually I really like it' which I quite liked! Many thanks for the kind words, they really do make a difference.
I should have written earlier to say how much your book was loved by my mother. I gave it to her when she was in her mid 90s, I think it was the last book anyone ever gave her because every time I tried to move it she would say NO leave that where it is, I love looking at it! It meant so much to her that it has a place of honour in my house now. I inherited a big collection of valuable architecture and design books from the 50s and 60s (she was an interior designer and bought everything) but in the end the bookshelf book was her favourite.
That's very kind of you Lloyd, I'm so pleased she enjoyed it. It was a pleasure to put together, all those clever designers featured were, without exception, delighted to be a part of it. It's my favourite book too.

I really enjoyed this (does that count as contacting the author with an excellent review?), and I particularly enjoyed the George Bernard Shaw quote
Yes, that counts. Thank you. GBS wrote so much that at least some of it has to make sense.
ah, the old 'throw a load of stuff at the wall and some is bound to stick' approach (that I know so well)
